Student exchange

The Nordplus Network promotes the student mobilitiy as an important activity by which the students and teachers gain a more in-depth knowledge of the member institutions and the Nordic and Baltic societies as a whole.

Aim

The aim is that mobility periodn another environment enhances the students’ and teachers’ multicultural and multilingual orientation, which is seen as an essential professional competence of teachers today.

The Network promotes student mobility for full-time studies in another Nordic or Baltic partner institution. Student mobility is the Network’s vital area because it is important that the new teacher generations get a chance to study in another socio-cultural setting. A longer mobility period in another cultural environment enhances the students’ and teachers’ multicultural and multilingual orientation, which is seen as an essential professional competence of teachers today.

Regulations

The Network promotes a period of 4-5 months (1 term) as a basic length of the mobility period. In the student mobility, the Network follows the Nordplus regulations; students who have completed a minimum of one academic year of studies at their home institutions prior to application for exchange, are eligible for the Nordplus student mobility grant. The student receives a monthly grant of 200 euros together with a travel grant. The amount of the travel grant depends on the destination. The procedure with regard to student exchange is that the home institution nominates the student to the host institution for a mobility period.

The process

In the application process, the student makes a careful plan of his/her studies during the mobility period together with the contact persons at the home and host institutions. The Nordplus exchange students are integrated into the normal teaching activities of the member institutions.

To avoid problems with credit transfer, the student’s home institution must accept the student’s learning agreement before the exchange begins. This learning agreement may be altered during the student’s exchange period, but it must be approved by the home and host institutions. The students receive a certificate of his/her studies at the host institution. The Network’s member institutions use the ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) to facilitate the transfer of credits.
